With solid ethics, utmost discretion and many years of experience, Principal Sue Folinsbee is recognized by her clients for putting relationships first and being wholeheartedly present. Sue works collaboratively with groups to identify a project path, journey for that path and outcomes for the work. Her track record, confirmed by longevity with organizations across Canada, particularly in the three territories also demonstrates an ability to honour diverse perspectives. Sue collaborates with clients to bridge and build capacity and empowerment.
Since its inception, Tri En Communications has led the field by flexibly adjusting to situations, requirements, shifts … and this adaptability has led Sue to once again begin a process of growth and innovation.
In the last decade, Sue has been working mainly on adult learning and evaluation projects with Indigenous Peoples in northern Canada and on national projects. “It is a privilege and honour to serve as a team member on these projects, a responsibility I do not take lightly as a non-Indigenous white woman of settler heritage.” Sue explains that she is on her own ongoing personal journey to understand and contribute to decolonization. This journey starts with deep listening and learning with those she works with. It includes taking courses to understand Canada’s colonial history and better learn how to work through an Indigenous lens and world view. It means embracing working in different ways even if that feels uncomfortable.
Over the past three years, she has studied with Andrea L.K. Johnston and taken her three workshops in the Honouring Reconciliation in Evaluation series. She has attended workshops on self-actualization and the pernicious effects of colonization on Inuit, First Nations and Métis Peoples of Canada. She is also in a study group to work through her own part in white supremacy through Me and White Supremacy. Sue recognizes this learning journey as a life-long one. She thanks and expresses gratitude to all those friends and colleagues who are her mentors on this journey.
